Shark Week Bites Off 42 Million Viewers, Highest Ratings Ever in Key Demos

Shark Week breaks records for Discovery in 27th year

Discovery’s “Shark Week” scored the best ratings in its proud 27-year history across several key demographics, the network announced.

The week set records in viewers 25-54 and and women 25-54, as well as women 18-49 from Sunday, Aug. 10 to Saturday, Aug. 16. It had more than 42 million total viewers.

Sunday, Aug. 10 was the highest-rated “Shark Week” night ever in the 25-54 group, and Discovery Channel was the top network in all of television among men 18-34 and 18-49 delivery last week.

The return of “Shark After Dark,” the week’s talk show, beat late-night cable talk show competitors including Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report,” TBS’ “Conan,” E!’s “Chelsea Lately” and “The Soup,” and HBO’s “Last Week Tonight.”
