‘SNL’ Fuels Black Widow-Female Superhero Backlash With Mock Marvel Trailer (Video)

NBC sketch comedy series rolls out preview for the fictitious film starring Scarlett Johansson

“The Avengers” character Black Widow is finally getting her own movie, thanks to “Saturday Night Live.”

This weekend’s “SNL” host Scarlett Johansson reprised her role as Black Widow, for a different take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The NBC sketch comedy series rolled out a trailer for the fictitious Black Widow film and posed the question: “Does Marvel not know how to make a girl superhero movie?”

“SNL” then shows the Disney-owned studio how the film should be made — in the form of a romantic comedy that’s a mashup between “Sex and the City” and “The Devil Wears Prada.”

The witty clip was an apparent jab at Marvel CEO Kevin Feige for failing to give Johansson her own movie.

Some fans have also questioned why there aren’t more Black Widow toys, including Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Last month he tweeted: “Marvel we need more Black Widow merchandise for my daughters and nieces. Pretty please.”

The Huffington Post took at closer look at the merchandise issue and found most of Black Widow’s male cohorts had at least three times as many offerings for fans — with Captain America logging 125 items, Iron Man has 120 and Thor comes in with 105.  But Black Widow only scored 33 items.

Who knows, maybe Marvel will be inspired by the “SNL” clip.
