“Spotlight” star Brian d’Arcy James has joined the cast of CBS’ “Superior Donuts” pilot.

Based on the play by Tracy Letts, the comedy series follows the relationship between the owner of a donut shop, his new young employee and their patrons in a gentrifying neighborhood of Chicago.

James will play Arthur, the typically gruff, to-the-point Chicagoan owner of Superior Donuts. His one (and only) employee is Franco (Jermaine Fowler) a high-energy, fast-talking force of nature who makes it his mission to drag the shop — and Arthur — into the 21st century.

The pilot also stars Maz Jobrani as a high-energy, over-caffeinated businessman who is constantly after Arthur to sell him the donut shop so he can control the entire block.

Neil Goldman, Garrett Donovan and Bob Daily serve as writers and executive producers on the multi-cam comedy pilot from CBS TV Studios.

Mark Teitelbaum, John Montgomery, Michael Rotenberg and Josh Lieberman will also executive produce. Fowler will co-executive produce, and James Burrows will direct.
