‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Adds Laura Dern to Cast, Disney Confirms Benicio Del Toro (Video)

Highly anticipated film begins principal photography in London

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” has added Laura Dern (“Jurassic Park,” “Enlightened”) to its ensemble cast.

Additionally, Disney has confirmed the casting of Benicio Del Toro, which TheWrap previously reported way back in August. It sounded back then like Del Toro would be playing the film’s villain.

Finally, newcomer Kelly Marie Tran is set to join the galaxy, which will also be inhabited by returning actors Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John BoyegaOscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.

The December 15, 2017 release is written and directed by Rian Johnson (“Brick”). “Episode VIII” began principal photography today at London’s Pinewood Studios.

The next “Star Wars” installment is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman, and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin and Tom Karnowski.

Joining the production crew are Steve Yedlin (director of photography), Bob Ducsay (editor), Rick Heinrichs (production designer), Peter Swords King (hair and make-up designer), and Mary Vernieu (U.S. casting director).

Returning crew members include Pippa Anderson (co-producer, VP post production), Neal Scanlan (creature & droid FX creative supervisor), Michael Kaplan (costume designer), Jamie Wilkinson (prop master), Chris Corbould (SFX supervisor), Rob Inch (stunt coordinator), Ben Morris (VFX supervisor), and Nina Gold (U.K. casting director).
