‘The Goldbergs’ Star Hayley Orrantia Teases ‘Outrageous’ Season 4 (Exclusive Video)

’80s-era family comedy returns Wednesday on ABC

“The Goldbergs” returns to ABC for Season 4 on Wednesday, and star Hayley Orrantia promises more laughs for her character this year.

“I think my character is getting to do a little bit goofier stuff on the show,” the actress said in an interview with TheWrap. “This season she gets to be a little bit more outrageous.”

The premiere episode, a tribute to the John Hughes classic “The Breakfast Club,” sees Wendi McLendon-Covey‘s character beginning work as a substitute teacher at her kids’ school, a development Orrantia calls “a little bit crazy.”

“Wendi is amazing. She’s hilarious. Her improv is insane. I can’t keep up whenever we’re on set,” Orrantia said, adding that she especially enjoys the character’s ’80s-style wig. “I know it drives her insane, but it works so well with the character. I can’t imagine her having any other look for that show.”

Wednesday’s “Breakfast Club” episode isn’t the first time the ABC comedy has gone the ’80s tribute route. It follows last season’s popular “Dirty Dancing” episode, a fan favorite.

“Everybody loves the ‘Dirty Dancing’ episode, and it was probably my favorite one to film,” she said. “It went really late, but we were with the best group of people. It’s so much fun to do tributes to big movies like that.”

“The Goldbergs” returns for Season 4 at 8/7c on ABC.
