Clive Owen Explains His Dedication to Modern Medicine in ‘The Knick’ Trailer (Video)

Steven Soderbergh directed the entire 10-episode season of the Cinemax original series

Clive Owen narrates the first trailer for Cinemax original series “The Knick,” a medical drama that takes place in 1900.

Steven Soderbergh directed all 10 episodes of the first season, which centers on Owen and his staff pushing the boundaries of modern medicine  at the Knickerbocker Hospital in downtown New York.

“More has been learned about the treatment of the human body in the last five years than was learned in the previous 500. I will not stop pushing forward until a hopeful future,” says Owen’s driven doctor. “Every blow I mend, every extra year I give to a patient, I know that at the very least, something has been won.”

The series, which appears to be a fresh take on the common hospital procedural, was written by executive producers  Jack Amiel and Michael Begler.

André Holland, Eve Hewson, Juliet Rylance, Jeremy Bobb, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, Cara Seymour, Eric Johnson, David Fierro, Maya Kazan, Leon Addison Brown and Matt Frewer round out the ensemble cast.

“The Knick” premieres on Aug. 8.
