“They are claiming it's a mess of dreads,” Whoopi Goldberg said. “You know what? You all should get a life! She's 2 years old!”
A petition, entitled “Comb Her Hair,” demanding Beyoncé and Jay Z comb their 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy's hair drew the ire of “The View” hosts during Monday's episode.
“The parents of Blue Ivy. Sean Carter a.k.a Jay Z and Beyoncé have failed at numerous attempts of doing Blue Ivy's hair,” the Change.org petition reads.
The petition has garnered over 5,000 signatures and ignited Whoopi Goldberg‘s rage.
“They are claiming it's a mess of dreads,” Goldberg said. “You know what? You all should get a life! She's 2 years old!”
“You know, it's when people start commenting on babies or anyone's children, it's the rudest, most cruel thing you can do,” Jenny McCarthy said. “It should end there!”
“You know, so many black people, the way we do our children's hair, especially as little girl, we take and — you've seen little black girls with a bunch of ponytail rings with the barrettes and baby hair,” Shepherd said. “This is a black woman who started this. So many folks, it's such a thing we are used to that.”
Shepherd thought it might be a generational divide among older blacks that don't like Blue Ivy's hair style.
“Why are we holding her to adult beauty standards?” guest co-host Carolina Bermudez said.
“Does this woman know anything about Blue Ivy's hair?” Goldberg asked.
“She's a hair care person,” Sherri Shepherd said.
“It doesn't matter,” Goldberg said. “No, she doesn't know her hair texture unless she felt it! She doesn't know what Blue Ivy's hair is.”
“Unless you brush a mile in their shoes, you might want to back the hell up,” Goldberg concluded.
