Discovery Channel has bulked up its program development by naming veteran programmer and producer Simon Andreae to the newly created position of West Coast senior VP of development and production.

In his new post, Andreae will be in charge of leading Discovery's West Coast development and production of new series and specials.

Andreae most recently was co-president of the Incubator, the production company behind such unscripted projects as "Science of Sex Appeal" on Discovery Channel, "Strange Rituals" on History and "My Shocking Story" on TLC.

"Simon is one of the most highly regarded executives in the unscripted space," said Clark Bunting, president and general manager of Discovery Channel and president of Science Channel.

Before Incubator, Andreae was head of science and education at Channel Four in the U.K., where he oversaw more than 100 hours of programming a year.
