Bristol Clubs Mom's Ratings; 'Dancing' Thrives as 'Alaska' Slides (update)

Bristol Palin joked last week that she and her mom were competing for ratings -- and Bristol is decidedly winning.

Monday night’s "Dancing with the Stars" was the most-watched entertainment telecast of the fall, with 23.7 million viewers and a 4.9 rating in adults 18-49, according to ABC. It was the biggest Monday finale week show in six seasons.

Ratings for "Sarah Palin's Alaska," meanwhile, were down nearly 40 percent in the show's second outing Sunday from the show's debut, when it had the best launch in TLC's history with nearly 5 million viewers.

Of course, Bristol's joke aside, it's not fair to say she's truly competing with her mom. The shows are on different nights, "Dancing" is an established powerhouse, and ABC is a lot bigger than TLC. (Of course, if this were a mother-daughter halibut-clubbing competition...)

"Alaska" had just over 3 million viewers this past Sunday against such competition as the American Music Awards on ABC and the night's most-watched broadcast, a "Sunday Night Football" game on NBC between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.

"Alaska," an eight-part series, had a 1.8 rating Sunday compared to 3.5 last week.
