‘What's the Deal?': Jeff Sneider on NBC's Major Jay Leno Mistake (Video)

Maybe it's because he grew up in Boston, but TheWrap's film reporter has a special affinity for Jay Leno — and some choice words for NBC

Was his show falling in the ratings? No. Had Leno lost a step? No. So why did NBC force him to step aside (for a second time!) and make way for younger talent? Shifting demographics may be network's answer, but that doesn't mean it's an acceptable explanation. As much as Sneider respects incoming host Jimmy Fallon, it'll be hard to replicate Leno's success.

Watch the video to find out why.

I agree wholeheartedly with Jeff Sneider. Jay Leno has always been a class act no matter what NBC or the other late night show hosts throw his way. This past weeks shows leading up to Jay's Tonight Show finale on Feb. 6, left me heartbroken.

I will miss spending my nights with Jay, but wish nothing but the best for Jimmy Fallon, whose parting words to his predecessor proved that he is a class act as well & truly the one that deserves to take over this late night talk shows reins.

Fact: Fallon will do well…but it will take a few years. In the mean time…NBC will lose a lot of cash with up and down ratings for quite a while..which is something they have not had to worry about for the last 20 years..

Jay Leno has followed in the footsteps of his predecessors and did a great job, but of course there was no one like Johnny Carson! Having said that, all the hosts of the tonight show were basically comedians and talk hosts. The reason I think Fallon might be the most successful of all is that he is super talented in so many things, not just comedy. He is a musician, he can act and he can do unbelievable impressions. He is also genuinely likeable. So I think that NBC will have a hit on their hands and considering he should take his following with him, I don't think it will be that long for the show to become top rated! I may even have to start taping it!
