What’s the Deal With ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Heading Back to Camp? (Video)

TheWrap’s Jeff Sneider breaks out the S’mores for Netflix’s upcoming prequel to the 2001 cult classic

“Wet Hot American Summer” from David Wain and Michael Showalter is destined to be as fun as roasting S’mores and singing campfire songs was when you were a kid.

In this week’s What’s the Dead? with Jeff Sneider, TheWrap’s film reporter dishes on Netflix’s prequel to the 2001 cult comedy classic.

“All of your favorite sunburned Jews are back, including the fabulous Bradley Cooper who is joined by fellow A-listers Jon Hamm, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig and even Weird Al Yankovic,” according to  Sneider. “Once again it is the summer of ’81 at Camp Firewood in Maine, but things look very different to how they did two months later.”

However, the prequel continues to capture the feeling of what it’s actually like to be at a summer camp — mosquito bites, bad food, teenage flirtations, outlandish counselors and all.

Also returning for another “Wet Hot American Summer” are Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, David Hyde Pierce, AD Miles, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth Paul Rudd and Marisa Ryan.

Ditch the camp fire for a TV when “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” over eight half-hour episodes premiering July 31 on Netflix.
