“Is it spicy?”

Jesse Singal, New York Magazine’s writer-at-large, challenged Twitter users to come up with the “whitest sentence” they could think of on Thursday, and users jumped on the opportunity.

“This is actually an interesting thought experiment: What is the whitest sentence you can come up with?” Singal wrote, inviting a slew of jokes as well as a few choice quotes from the news and politics.

“”I need the Volvo this weekend to drive Duncan to hockey camp at Middlebury,” suggested one user. “Etsy is the best place to stock up on acro wear for the Playa,” replied another.

But it wasn’t all laughs. Singal took some heat from users who objected to the idea that he was making fun of white people. “My tweet about the whitest possible sentence has brought both a lot of jokes and a lot of angry white people,” he wrote a few hours later. “Which is, well, Twitter.”
