“Zootopia” and “Kubo and the Two Strings” lead the nominations for the 44th annual Annie Awards, with 11 nominations and 10 nominations, respectively.

In the category for Best Animated Feature, “Zootopia” and “Kubo” are nominated along with “Finding Dory,” “Kung Fu Panda 3” and “Moana.” In the separate Best Animated Independent Feature Category are films like the Swiss foreign-language Oscar entry “My Life as a Zucchini,” “Miss Hokusai,” “Long Way North,” “The Red Turtle” and “Your Name.”

Disney and its entities received 38 nods, including two for the studio’s live-action hit “The Jungle Book.” DreamWorks Animation scored 18 nominations for its film and TV shows.

Animated short subject nominees include the National Film Board of Canada’s “Blind Vaysha,” Studio ZAZAC’s “Deer Flower,” Acme Filmworks’ “Path Title Sequence,” Google Spotlight Stories’ “Pearl,” and Pixar’s “Piper.”

For voice acting in a feature, Auli’i Cravalho is nominated for voicing the title character in “Moana,” while Zooey Deschanel is nominated for lending her voice to Bridget in DreamWorks Animation’s “Trolls.” Jason Bateman received a nomination for his character in “Zootopia.”

“Once again, this year has seen another increase in Annie submissions, and a continuing and broadening interest from not only the animation community, but also the film industry in general, ” said ASIFA’s executive director, Frank Gladstone, in the official press release. “We are ever mindful that the Annie Awards have become an early and welcomed addition into the ‘Award Season’ mainstream.”

The Annie Awards cover 36 categories including Special Productions, Commercials, Short Subjects and Student Films. This year’s winners will be announced during a ceremony on Feb. 4, 2017 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
