Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” executive producer Jeph Loeb kicked off the show’s Comic-Con panel with a promise that the audience will see things that no one else has ever seen.
He teased this past season’s big twist with HYDRA, SHIELD’s enemy that claimed Grant Ward as one of their own. Taking off his shirt, Loeb revealed he was wearing a HYDRA shirt.
He was then joined by the producers for upcoming series, “Agent Carter”: Tara Butters (“Resurrection”), Michele Fazekas (“Resurrection”), Christopher Markus (“Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier”), Stephen McFeely (“Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) and Louis D’Esposito (“Marvel’s The Avengers”), plus series star Hayley Atwell (“Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger”).
“It was very gratifying,” Markus said, “creating this show was a great chance to mine that character again.”
“I feel theres so much to explore,” Atwell said of the character. “The pilot is a great chance to look at her develop as a human being and a super spy.”
“Agent Carter” takes place in 1946, and Peggy is picking up the pieces of her life. In a new preview, there’s a lot of focus on Stark Industries with Carter saying that there’s a lot to be found in starting over. “Welcome to the SSR,” Carter says.
The panel then switched back over to “SHIELD.” Loeb was joined by executive producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen and Jeffrey Bell, along with cast members Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton (wearing a HYDRA shirt), Chloe Bennet, Iain de Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge.
First up, some catch-up with the agents. “There’s going to be some changes,” Bennet said of her involvement with SHIELD next season. “She’s been through a lot and she was betrayed by someone. I still ship ‘Sky-Ward,’ but until then ‘Skimmons.'”
Dalton said he was totally surprised that he was to be a member of HYDRA. “But at least I got to work with Bill Paxton,” Dalton said.
As for additions to the cast, the group confirmed Lucy Lawless will appear as SHIELD vet Isabelle Hartley. She’s tough and has knife skills. Also, Nick Blood will play a mercenary who helps SHIELD, as it has been disenfranchised. And, Reed Diamond will play HYDRA villain Daniel Whitehall.
