The CW released the first images “Arrow” star Katie Cassidy as the Black Canary on Wednesday.
Cassidy’s character, Laurel Lance, has been poised to become the butt-kicking DC Comics superheroine since the series began, but it has been a slow transformation. The images are attached to Season 3’s 10th episode, titled “Left Behind,” which doesn’t yet have an air date.
As TheWrap previously reported, Vinnie Jones (“Snatch”) will debut in that episode as the villain Brick.
Black Canary was previously embodied by Laurel’s sister, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), but the character was shot through the heart with an arrow and killed in the October premiere. It was a game-changing event for the show’s band of heroes and has dictated much of Season 3’s plot, including Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) search for Sara’s murderer and Laurel’s vow to avenge her sister’s death.
Shortly thereafter, Laurel began training with Ted Grant (J.R. Ramirez). The past few episodes have shown her slowly evolve into a more action-oriented character and Wednesday’s episode is expected to focus heavily on her growth as fighter, as well as her relationship with Ted, who will eventually become the DC superhero Wildcat.
