Paramount’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “SpongeBob” movies will receive wide releases in 2025.

The untitled “SpongeBob” film from Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation will hit theaters on May 23, 2025.

The “Animated Aang Avatar” film, which also remains untitled, comes out Oct. 10 of that year. A joint production from Nickelodeon Animation, Paramount Animation and Avatar Studios, it’s set to be Avatar Studios’ first film and the first of three feature-length “Avatar” films. According to the studio, the first chapter will focus on Avatar Aang and his friends.

In July, it was announced that Lauren Montgomery, whose credits include “Voltron: Legendary Defender,” “The Legend of Korra,” and Nickelodeon’s original “Avatar: The Last Airbender” TV show, will direct. Producers are Bryan Konietzko (“Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “The Legend of Korra”), Michael DiMartino (“Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “The Legend of Korra”), and Eric Coleman (“Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “SpongeBob SquarePants”).

Latifa Ouaou, EVP of Movies and Global Franchises for Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, is overseeing development on the film, in addition to Jason McConnell, VP of Animation at Nickelodeon Animation & Paramount Animation.

Paramount unveiled plans for the latest SpongeBob SquarePants movie in Feb. 2022, along with two other films based on the original characters from the television show. The first is slated to debut on Paramount+ next year. The previous three “SpongeBob” films came out in 2004, 2015 and 2020.

Meanwhile, a live-action series adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is in the works at Netflix. The show will star George Takei, Arden Cho, Gordon Cormier, Ian Ousley, Daniel Dae Kim and more.
