BAFTA Puts Cubby Broccoli’s Name on Britannia Award

Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment will be named for longtime James Bond producer

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles has named one of its annual Britannia Awards in honor of longtime James Bond producer Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli, BAFTA Los Angeles announced on Tuesday.

Cubby BroccoliBroccoli was an ardent support of BAFTA Los Angeles, and the first recipient of a Britannia Award more than 20 years ago.

Broccoli's name will be added to the Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment, which this year will be given to Pixar's John Lasseter.

Other Britannia Awards have already been named for Stanley Kubrick, Charlie Chaplin and John Schlesinger.

As for exactly what the award will be called, the BAFTA Los Angeles press release wasn't entirely clear. The release twice referred to the honor as the Cubby Brocolli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment, and once as the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment.

Under one name or the other, the award will be presented on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at a Beverly Hills Hotel ceremony hosted by actor Alan Cumming. Besides Lasseter, honorees will include Warren Beatty, Helena Bonham Carter, Ben Stiller and David Yates.
