‘The Voice’ Belts Out a Monday Primetime Ratings Win for NBC

The show’s first-ever three-way knockouts earned the network first place in total viewership and in the demo

“The Voice’s” first stab at at three-way knockout round belted out a Monday primetime win for NBC, as the network took first place in both total viewership and the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic, according to Nielsen’s live plus same-day figures.

While the show typically pits two performers head-to-head to secure their spot in the live playoffs round, NBC shook things up by adding a third singer to the mix — and it clearly paid off. NBC earned a 0.52 rating in the demo and a total average viewership of 4.9 million — both up slightly from last week’s 0.51 ratings score and 4.6 million viewers on average.

Beginning at 8 p.m., “The Voice” led NBC to early victory by scoring a rating of 0.61 and receiving 6.3 million viewers on average — the highest rating and viewership of the night across networks. A new episode of “Quantum Leap” premiered at 10 p.m. and closed out the night with a 0.33 rating in the demo and a total average viewership of 2.3 million.

Here’s how primetime went down across the major broadcasters:

ABC was second in ratings with an average 0.43 rating in the key demo, and scored third place in total viewers with an average of 2.6 million viewers. Monday’s airing of “Bachelor in Paradise” started off the night strong, drawing in a ratings score of 0.49 and an average viewership of 2.3 million. Next up was a new episode of “The Good Doctor,” which received 0.29 in ratings and brought in 3.3 million viewers on average.

Fox came in third place ratings-wise with a ratings score of 0.28 for the night and came fourth in terms of total viewers with 1.5 million viewers on average. A rerun of “9-1-1” started off the night at 8 p.m. with a ratings score of 0.33 and drew a viewership of 1.9 million on average. In the 9 p.m. hour, a rerun of “The Cleaning Lady” received a 0.23 in ratings and garnered 1.0 million average viewers.

CBS took fourth place in ratings with an average 0.24 rating in the key demo, but nabbed second place in total viewers with an average of 3.5 million viewers for the night. “The Neighborhood” started off the evening with a ratings score of 0.33 and received a viewership of 3.8 million on average. Next came “Bob Hearts Abishola” in the 9 p.m. hour, which earned a ratings score of 0.24 and received an average viewership of 3.2 million. The “NCIS” franchise capped off the night, with “NCIS” capturing 0.21 in ratings and 3.8 average million viewers and “NCIS: Hawaiʻi” drawing in a ratings score of 0.22 and a viewership of 3.2 million on average.

The CW was fifth in ratings with an average 0.10 in the demo and in total viewers with an average of 544,000 viewers. At 8 p.m. “World’s Funniest Animals” earned a 0.11 rating and drew in 648,000 viewers on average and at 9 p.m. the network’s Halloween themed, “The 13 Scariest Movies of All Time,” received a rating score of 0.08 and brought 440,000 average viewers.

In terms of Spanish-language networks, Univision came in first with a 0.4 rating in the demo and 1.3 million total average viewers in primetime. “Vencer La Ausencia” started off the night at 8 p.m. with a rating of 0.3 in the demo and a viewership of 1.2 million on average. In the 9 p.m. hour, “Los Ricos También Lloran,” earned a ratings score of 0.5 and brought in 1.6 average million viewers. “La Madrastra” closed out the night with 0.4 in the demo and an average viewership of 1.2 million.

Telemundo came in second place both in terms of rating in the demo and total average viewership, as the network saw a 0.2 rating and 802,000 average total viewers for Mondays primetime. Reality competition show “Exatlón Estados Unidos,” which ran from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., brought in a ratings score of 0.2 and received an average viewership of 836,00. Next up was “La Reina del Sur,” which brought in a 0.3 rating and 850,000 total viewers on average. At 10 p.m. “El Fuego del Destino” finished out the night with a rating of 0.2 in the demo and a total viewership of 674,000 on average.
