Casey Affleck, Noah Jupe to Play Musician Donnie Emerson in Bill Pohlad’s ‘Dreamin’ Wild’

Walton Goggins, Jack Dylan Grazer, Zooey Deschanel and Beau Bridges round out the ensemble

Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck will lead the cast of writer/director Bill Pohlad’s next film “Dreamin’ Wild,” which charts the true story of musicians Donnie and Joe Emerson. Affleck will be joined in the ensemble by Noah Jupe, Beau Bridges, Zooey Deschanel, Walton Goggins, Jack Dylan Grazer and Chris Messina.

Pohlad wrote and directs “Dreamin’ Wild,” his first film since his Brian Wilson biopic “Love & Mercy” was released in 2014 to positive critical response.

Per the official synopsis, “Dreamin’ Wild” tells the true story of the Emerson family. When “Dreamin’ Wild” – the album Donnie self-recorded as a teenager with his brother Joe – is re-discovered and meets critical acclaim, adult Donnie is forced to confront ghosts from the past and grapple with the emotional toll his dreams have taken on the family who supported him.

Production began this month in Spokane, Washington. In a framing device similar to “Love & Mercy” where John Cusack played an older Brian Wilson and Paul Dano played the younger version of the character, Affleck plays Donnie Emerson as an adult, while Jupe – fresh off “A Quiet Place – Part II” – plays Donnie during his teenage years.

Goggins plays adult Joe Emerson, the other half of the musical duo, while Grazer plays teenage Joe. Deschanel will play Donnie’s wife, Nancy, Bridges plays Don Sr. and Messina plays Light in the Attic Records executive Matt Sullivan.

Innisfree Pictures’ Oscar-winner Jim Burke will produce alongside River Road’s Kim Roth and Bill Pohlad, SPG3’s Viviana Vezzani and Karl Spoerri. Christa Workman, Dan Clifton, Steven Snyder and Casey Affleck will serve as executive producers. SPG3 will co-finance the project with River Road.
