Vice President JD Vance quickly reiterated to supporters that he’s not gay during a campaign stop for Ken Paxton in Texas this week — but no one actually asked him if he was. And that made “The View” guest host Raven-Symoné side eye the man a bit on Thursday morning.
Vance’s insistence came after a supporter called out “I love you” on the tarmac, and Vance said he loved the man back. The vice president then immediately clarified he meant it in a platonic way, because “I’m the vice president, not James Talarico.” Talarico is running for senate against Paxton, and is not gay, this is just a claim that Republicans are making about him.
“JD Vance, no one asked if you were gay,” Raven said. “You’re literally just saying it out of nowhere, which makes me go, ‘Hmm.’”
The ABC hosts were quick to point out that Talarico has a long-term girlfriend, but that even if he were gay, it wouldn’t be a problem. The women called out Vance and others for also falsely claiming that Talarico is a vegan and was recently in a mental health facility, as attempted insults.
“They keep using vegan, gay as these slurs, when in actuality, Cam Newton is a vegan, and I think he’s super masculine. And hot!” Raven continued. “Carl Nassib is gay, and he’s super masculine. So you thinking that calling someone gay or vegan de-masculates them is actually a very old, old, old way, which just goes to show you that you’re not up to date, and we have no idea what you’re talking about because it’s just like, you’re trying to set up a joke, a dad joke that did not land very well.”
“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
