Gal Gadot will receive the Rising Star Award – Actress at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s 2018 Awards Gala, PSIFF organizers announced on Thursday.
Gadot, the star of “Wonder Woman,” is the first Palm Springs award recipient to be announced this year. While she is not as much of an awards contender as previous honorees Ruth Negga, Alicia Vikander, Jennifer Lawrence and Anna Kendrick, all of whom received Oscar nominations the year they were honored, Gadot won widespread acclaim for a film that set box office records and became the highest-grossing film ever directed by a woman (Patty Jenkins).
Gadot’s other films include three “Fast & Furious” films, “Date Night” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” in which she first played Wonder Woman. She also appears in the role in “Justice League,” which will be released on November 17.
The PSIFF Awards Gala will be held on Tuesday, January 2, just before the January 4 kickoff of a festival that will run through January 15 in the desert resort town east of Los Angeles.
Additional honorees will be announced over the next month.
