George and Amal Clooney welcomed twins Tuesday morning, the couple announced.

Ella and Alexander Clooney, along with Amal, are all “happy, healthy and doing fine,” the new parents said in a statement sent to TheWrap.

As for George, he is “sedated and should recover in a few days.” Poor George.

Some people thought the day would never come for the 56-year-old actor and producer, who at one point was one of Hollywood’s most eligible and perpetual bachelors (although he was married to actress Talia Balsam for four years from 1989 to 1993).

That all changed in 2013 when he met Amal Alamuddin, a Lebanese-British international law and human rights lawyer. The two got married in 2014 at a private Venice ceremony.

The couple has been relatively private in regards to their personal life, both focusing on their work. Since their marriage, George has starred in multiple movies including “Tomorrowland” and “Hail, Caesar!” and has been keeping up with producing. Amal, 39, meanwhile, has been working to get Turkey to acknowledge the Armenian genocide and has taken on a number of other cases.

The couple also founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which seeks to “advance justice in courtrooms, communities, and classrooms around the world,” according to the website.

The news of the Clooney pregnancy in February, however, sparked a whole different kind of recognition from people online, with some comparing it to Beyonce’s recent pregnancy announcement (the singer is also expecting twins).
