“House of Cards” writer Bill Kennedy is in final negotiations to adapt Matthew Mather’s self-published e-book “Cyberstorm” for 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment, TheWrap has learned.
Story follows an average New Yorker struggling to keep his family together as an increasingly bizarre series of disasters occur around the world. As society comes crashing down both online and off, a massive snowstorm cuts New York off from the rest of the world, turning the Big Apple into a place where nothing is what it seems and no one can be trusted.

“Cyberstorm” debuted to strong sales in March, while Fox and Chernin pounced on the movie rights in July. Studios have been paying closer attention to e-book sales ever since “Fifty Shades of Grey” became a cultural phenomenon.
Mather is a cybersecurity expert who began his career working at the McGill Center for Intelligent Machines.
Kennedy is a Duke graduate who worked as a writer’s assistant on the first season of Netflix’s “House of Cards” and served as a staff writer for upcoming second season. He also wrote the indie comedy “Sex Ed,” which stars Haley Joel Osment and Abby Elliott.
