The competition begins in earnest on “So You Think You Can Dance” this week, with the 20 finalists getting the chance to pair up with other finalists specializing in their style to showcase what they can do during the live broadcast. They’ll have to impress guest judge Jason Derulo along the way.

Derulo is also on hand to perform his latest single, “Wiggle,” featuring Snoop Dogg, but his biggest challenge may be sitting alongside permanent judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy. Murphy in particular has a tendency to get very loud as she ushers contestants onto her “hot tamale train.”

Known as much for his dancing in his music videos as he is for his smooth vocals, the 24-year-old singer should be able to provide some helpful insight to the contestants. Derulo attended performing arts schools, where he developed both as a singer and dancer before breaking into the music business as a songwriter while still a teenager.
