Megyn Kelly acknowledged the less-than-positive media coverage of her new show, “Megyn Kelly Today,” after her first week on the job.

“I just want to take a moment to thank all of you so much for watching this week,” she said as she signed off the Friday broadcast. “It’s been very exciting. It has been educational.” She then made a joke: “I’ve just been so delighted at the media response, which is really — no,” she said. “But the viewer response has been awesome, and I am so grateful to have all of you giving us a chance.”

Kelly’s first week has been marred by some negative responses from her guests, particularly “Will and Grace” star Debra Messing and screen legend Jane Fonda.

When Messing appeared on the show Monday with the rest of the “Will and Grace” cast, Kelly made a joke about the show “turning” an audience member gay. Messing later posted on Instagram that she was “dismayed” by Kelly’s comments and didn’t even realize she and her co-stars would be on Kelly’s show.

“Honestly I didn’t know it was [Megyn Kelly] until that morning,” Messing wrote in response to a commenter on her Instagram page. “The itinerary just said Today Show appearance. Regret going on. Dismayed by her comments.”

Later in the week, Fonda and Robert Redford joined Kelly to discuss their new Netflix movie, “Our Souls at Night.” Kelly asked Fonda about plastic surgery she’s had done, to which Fonda asked, “We really wanna talk about this right now?”

Fonda later said on ET Canada that she was a little “shocked” by Kelly’s question, and that “it’s a weird thing to bring up — whether I’ve had plastic surgery or not.”

On top of these interview snafus, a cameraman on Kelly’s show accidentally stepped into the frame on Thursday, muttering “sh–.”

“Megyn Kelly Today” will be back Monday, perhaps a little less bumpy after a rocky first week.
