MTV Releases Show’s Whole Season on App – a Week Before It Premieres

Fans won’t have to wait ’til next year to binge-watch “Watch ‘Til Next Year”

MTV has found a middle ground between the typical TV strategy of rolling out episodes a week at a time and the Netflix approach of giving viewers a season all at once: It’s doing both.

Starting today, MTV will debut an entire season of the football documentary series “Wait ‘Til Next Year” on the MTV app available on iPhone, iPad and Xbox 360 for Xbox Live Gold. The show will premiere on MTV next Friday, Nov. 1, at 8/7c.

MTV says the strategy of releasing a whole season online before it airs on TV is a television first. Earlier this week, MTV’s sister channel, VH1, madethe biopic “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” available on its new app for a week following its televised premiere and encore.

“Wait ‘Til Next Year” follows a season for the Lincoln Park Railsplitters, a team who have lost 43 consecutive games in the last five years. In a nod to the tradition of fall high school football, the series will air Friday nights on MTV.
