Oscars 2020: Fewer Movies (and Nonwhite Actors) Get More Nominations, and That’s No Joke

Even as the Academy tries hard to create a more diverse body of voters, awards season itself automatically and perhaps unfairly narrows the field of movies that are seen as contenders

One step up, two steps back. That’s what the Academy took when it announced nominations for the 92nd Oscars on Monday morning.

On the plus side, “Parasite” received five nominations, making it the first Korean film to be nominated in any of its categories, which included Best Picture and Best Director.
