The music world lost a legend when Ozzy Osbourne died back in July, and MTV is doing its part to ensure that the late Prince of Darkness is remembered for being a global rock icon.

This Sunday’s 2025 MTV Video Music Awards will feature a special tribute to the Black Sabbath heavy metal singer, with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Yungblud and Nuno Bettencourt taking part in the salute.

Osbourne died on July 22 at the age of 76. His cause of death was revealed to be a heart attack, with Parkinson’s disease also listed a contributing factor. The musician also died just three weeks after he took part in a retirement concert with Black Sabbath at England’s Villa Park.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the Osbourne family shared at the time. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

The music legend is survived by his wife Sharon Osbourne and his six children — Elliot Kingsley, Louis Osbourne, Jessica Starshine Osbourne, Jack Osbourne, Aimee Osbourne and Kelly Osbourne.

“I didn’t think you would leave so soon the last time we met you were so full of life and your laugh filled up the room. But as it is written with legends, they seem to know the things that we don’t. I will never forget you — you will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage,” Yungblud wrote following Osbourne’s death. “Your cross around my neck is the most precious thing I own. You asked me once if there was anything you could do for me and as I said then and as I will say now for all of us the music was enough. You took us on your adventure — an adventure that started it all. I am truly heartbroken. You were the greatest of all time.”

LL Cool J hosts the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, live this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS, MTV and Paramount+.
