AMC Networks has fired Sunu Gonera, the co-creator of drama series “Parish,” after a sexual misconduct investigation, an individual with knowledge confirmed to TheWrap on Monday.
“We recently became aware of some very serious allegations against an individual working on this production, who was immediately suspended and then terminated at the conclusion of an internal investigation,” an AMC Network spokesperson said in a statement to TheWrap.
According to Deadline, which broke the story, the incident in question occurred in September between Gonera and a woman who wasn’t employed by AMC Networks in an apartment located off of the set and outside of the production’s hours.
Sources told the trade the woman was a longtime employee of Gonera’s and that they lived together in the off-set apartment. She reportedly informed AMC that Gonera sexually assaulted her and she also filed a police report.
Amid a two week-investigation into the allegation by AMC Networks, Gonera was suspended and ultimately let go.
Deadline reported that Gonera’s management and representatives, A3 Artists and Thruline Entertainment, had both dropped him. The companies and Gonera’s legal reps didn’t immediately respond to TheWrap’s requests for comment.
Gonera also served as an executive producer and director on the series, an adaption of the BBC One series “The Driver,” which is set to premiere next year.
“Parish” stars Giancarlo Esposito as Vince, who agrees to chauffeur “The Horse,” a Zimbabwean gangster based in New Orleans, who takes advantage of illegal immigrants in U.S. port towns.
