RuPaul Charles has signed a first-look scripted deal with Sony Pictures Television. Former State Street Pictures executive Jay Marcus has joined RuCo as its head of film and television.

Marcus held the same job at State Street.

Under the new deal, RuCo will focus on telling queer, character-driven stories, centered around RuPaul’s iconic brand of positivity, empowerment, humor, and music, according to Sony. The company will develop across all platforms including drama, comedy, and animation.

“Not only I am thrilled and honored to join the Sony Pictures Television family, but I’m also extremely grateful for the opportunity to tell unique stories that push the conversation forward,” Rupaul said in a statement on Monday.

“As a kid in high school, I was mocked for dancing to RuPaul’s hit song ‘Supermodel,’” Sony Pictures Television Co-President Jason Clodfelter added. “I never imagined then how many walls Ru would break down for the LGBTQIA+ and straight allied communities alike. Ru’s love for all people correlates to the cultural specificity we crave in our storytelling at Sony Pictures Television. We are honored to be a part of Ru’s continued history making journey.”

RuPaul and RuCo are repped by CAA and attorney Jessica Boardman.

After this fall’s ceremony, RuPaul now owns the most Emmy Awards, 11, of any Black artist in Emmy history. See his full list of Emmy wins below.

Charles has been nominated for a total of 16 Emmy Awards, all for “RuPaul’s Drag Race” or “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked.”
