‘Star Wars Rebels’ Premieres Oct. 3 With One-Hour Movie on Disney Channel

“Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion” will be available earlier, on Sep. 29, to verified users on WATCH Disney XD and Disney Channel SVOD

After a premiere at San Diego Comic-Con in July, Disney XD has set a launch date for the highly-anticipated next chapter in the “Star Wars” animated saga. “Star Wars Rebels” will kick off on Friday, Oct. 3 with a one-hour movie event: “Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion.”

The movie premiere on Disney Channel will be followed by the launch of the animated series on Monday, Oct. 13 on Disney XD.

Fans will get the chance to catch “Spark of Rebellion” early, as Disney is also making the movie available to verified users on WATCHDisneyXD.com and the WATCH Disney XD app for smartphones and tablets on Monday, Sep. 29. It will also be available on Disney Channel SVOD.

The movie gets its television premiere on Friday, Oct. 3 at 9/8c on Disney Channel, and will be available on Disney XD VOD the following day. The movie then airs in its regular night on Disney XD on Monday, Oct. 6 at 8/7c.

The following Monday, Oct. 13, the series premiere of “Star Wars Rebels” kicks off at 9/8c.

“Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion” will be available for purchase through Apple iTunes, Amazon Instant and Google Play on Saturday, Oct. 4, while the DVD will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The DVD will feature four additional “Star Wars Rebels” shorts, as well as additional features and a 3-d model ship.

The new series takes place between the events of “Star Wars” Episodes III and IV. The official description reads, “The motley but clever crew of the starship ‘Ghost’ — cowboy Jedi Kanan, ace pilot Hera, street-smart teenager Ezra, the ‘muscle’ Zeb, warrior firebrand Sabine, and cantankerous old astromech droid Chopper — is among a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire. Together, they will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.”

Created by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Carrie Beck, “Star Wars Rebels is produced by Luscasfilm Animation, and is executive produced by Filoni, Kinberg and Greg Weisman. It stars the voice talents of Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Taylor Gray, David Oyelowo and Jason Isaacs.
