Stephen Colbert Auditions for Inevitable El Chapo Movie (Video)

Comedian jokes about Mexican drug lord’s interview with actor Sean Penn for Rolling Stone magazine

If Hollywood is ready to make the El Chapo biopic, Stephen Colbert is ready to take on the role.

Tackling the news that the drug kingpin had been recaptured by the Mexican government following an interview with actor Sean Penn for Rolling Stone, the “Late Show” host shared his audition tape for the role on Monday night.

Colbert does several different versions of “the man who built the world’s most lucrative drug empire after Pfizer,” including one as an Italian gangster, one straight out of a multi-camera sitcom and one that’s actually just Han Solo.

Mexican drug lord Joaquín Guzmán Loera, known as El Chapo, was recaptured by Mexican police on Friday, six months after his dramatic escape from prison. Mexican attorney general Arely Gomez told the press that Guzman’s meetings with “actresses and producers” helped lead officials to his location.

On Saturday, Rolling Stone published Penn’s interview, which was arranged through Mexican actress Kate del Castillo. In the article, Penn wrote that Guzman was seeking del Catillo’s assistance in adapting his personal story for a movie.

Although TheWrap is not aware of any movie is in the works (yet), there will be a TV series. Univision’s unauthorized show, “Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán: El Varón de la Droga” (“Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán: The Drug Baron”), will premiere next fall, TheWrap exclusively reported on Monday.
