The motion picture “The Jungle Book” and the “Battle of the Bastards” episode of “Game of Thrones” were the big winners at Tuesday night’s 15th Annual VES Awards, which are presented by the Visual Effects Society.

“The Jungle Book” won five awards in the film categories, including Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature, the VES category that most closely corresponds to the Oscars’ Best Visual Effects category. In the 14 previous years of the VES Awards, its top winner went on to win the VFX Oscar nine times.

“Deepwater Horizon” and the animated film “Moana” each won two awards, while “Kubo and the Two Strings” won in the Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature category.

In the TV categories, “Game of Thrones” dominated winning five awards and sweeping every TV category except the one in which it was not eligible, Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode. “Black Sails” won that award.

The awards took place at the Beverly Hilton, with Patton Oswalt hosting. The VES Visionary Award went to Marvel Studios’ Victoria Alonso, while the VES Lifetime Achievement Award went to Ken Ralston.
