The USA Network has ordered a pilot for the new drama “Mr. Robot,” about a hacker who infiltrates people’s lives in order to connect with them emotionally.

Mr. Robot” follows Elliot, a young programmer with an intense anti-social disorder who tries to connect with people by hacking them. He finds himself torn between the cybersecurity firm he works for and organizations who want him to help bring down corporate America.

The project comes from writer and executive producer Sam Esmail (“Comet”) and Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin (“True Detective”) and Chad Hamilton (“Breakup at a Wedding”). The Universal Cable Productions project joins the previously announced UCP pilot pick-up of “Stanistan,” a drama about State Department workers, covert CIA officers and journalists.

“‘Mr. Robot‘ is a visionary drama,” said Chris McCumber, president of USA Network. “It is a very timely and relatable story that captures both the excitement and danger of today’s digital world.”
