What makes the MTV Movie Awards different from any other award show Hollywood throws every year? According to comedian Pete Holmes, “legitimacy.”

“We’re completely lacking in it. This is a phony baloney one,” the TBS late-night host told TheWrap (above) while walking the red carpet for MTV’s annual event on Sunday.

“What the f–k is going on here?” the host of “The Pete Holmes Show” continued as he playfully blasted MTV’s movie marketing extravaganza, which takes pride in kicking off summer blockbuster season with a slew of promotional clips and celebrity appearances.

Holmes attended to support host Conan O’Brien, who also executive produces Holmes’ TBS show, which airs following “Conan” weeknights at midnight.
