’20/20′ Anchor Elizabeth Vargas Checks Into Rehab for Alcohol Addiction

ABC News Anchor Elizabeth Vargas is back in rehab.

Vargas, a “20/20” co-anchor and news correspondent, checked into rehab on Saturday in California for alcohol issues, her rep confirmed to TheWrap.

“While on vacation this weekend, I decided to return to a recovery center. As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process,” Vargas said in a statement given to TheWrap.

“I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry. I am committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease and want to thank everyone who has offered their unwavering support during this trying time,” the statement continued.

Despite Vargas’ concerns, ABC spokesperson Heather Riley said the anchorwoman has the network’s support.

“Nothing is more important than Elizabeth’s health and well-being and we stand squarely behind her. Our thoughts are with Elizabeth and her family and we look forward to having her back at ABC News when she feels ready to return,” Riley said.

Vargas, 51,previously entered rehab in November 2013.

She returned to the air in January and spoke about her “exhausting” battle with alcoholism during an appearance on “Good Morning America.”

“I am. I am an alcoholic,” Vargas told “GMA” co-anchor George Stephanopoulos “It took me a long time to admit that to myself. It took me a long time to admit it to my family, but I am.”

The New York Post first reported the news on Sunday that Vargas had returned to rehab.
