Russell Schwartz Exits Relativity EuropaCorp as Marketing President

The company had a difficult year at the box office, with “Beyond the Lights” and “Best of Me” delivering disappointing returns

Russell Schwartz has stepped down as president of theatrical marketing at Relativity EuropaCorp Distribution.

“We appreciate all of Russell’s contributions to the studio and wish him well as he pursues new opportunities,” a company spokesperson told TheWrap.

Schwartz’s departure was announced at a staff meeting on Tuesday and the company has initiated talks to find his replacement. This comes at a tough time at Relativity following a difficult year at the box office, with “Beyond the Lights” and “Best of Me” delivering disappointing returns.

Relativity EuropaCorp Distribution is a venture between Relativity and EuropaCorp to market and distribute Relativity Studios’ films worldwide and EuropaCorp’s movies in the U.S.

Schwartz was formerly a consultant at Relativity and then replaced Terry Curtin as the studio’s marketing chief in August 2013. Prior to that, Schwartz worked on marketing campaigns for such New Line titles as the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and the “Rush Hour” sequels.

Variety was the first to report the news.
