Jason O’Mara Cast as George Washington in History Miniseries ‘Sons of Liberty’

Will play the man who eventually becomes America’s first President

Jason O’Mara will play future President George Washington in History’s planned miniseries “Sons of Liberty,” TheWrap has confirmed.

O’Mara joins the previously cast Ben Barnes, Ryan Eggold, Michael Raymond-James, Rafe Spall and Henry Thomas, each of whom are playing Founding Fathers who had a hand in declaring America’s independence from England. Also part of the cast are Marton Csokas as General Thomas Gage and Dean Norris as Benjamin Franklin.

The six-part miniseries follows a group of young men — Sam Adams (Barnes), John Adams (Thomas), Paul Revere (Raymond-James), John Hancock (Spall) and Joseph Warren (Eggold) — who banded together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation.

Washington supported the rebellion against England early and was ultimately voted to be the Commander in Chief of the Continental army, based on his military experience and leadership qualities, despite personally feeling like he wasn’t equal to the task.

Kari Skogland is set to direct the miniseries, which will also boast a main title written by Hans Zimmer. O’Mara was most recently seen on a recurring arc on “The Good Wife” and is also known for “Terra Nova” and “Vegas.”
