Local TV Weatherman Shot Outside Texas Station

Law enforcement officials have a man in custody after the shooting puts the KCEN studio on lockdown

A local weatherman was shot multiple times by an assailant in Texas on Wednesday.

Morning show meteorologist, Patrick Crawford, 35, was shot in the parking lot near the KCEN-TV studio’s Bruceville-Eddy studio, according to KCEN News.

“[Crawford] was getting into his car this morning after leaving the building and the subject walked up to him and they had a confrontation,” Department of Public Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson told ABC News. “Whether they know each other or it’s a random shooting, we don’t know that yet.”

The incident prompted law enforcement officials to put the station on lockdown as officers and a K-9 canvassed the building. The Department of Public Safety, Bruceville-Eddy police and the Falls County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Emergency personnel took Crawford to Scott and White Memorial Hospital in nearby Temple for surgery. His wife and fellow station meteorologist, Heather Brinkmann, was with him at the hospital,  KCEN’s news director Jim Hice told ABC News.

KCEN also reported that law enforcement officials have a person of interest in custody. However, according to an update from the Dallas Morning News, it is not the suspect and the search continues for the shooter.

Representatives from the Waco Department of Public Safety did not immediately return TheWrap‘s request for comment.
