‘The Lone Ranger,’ ‘One Chance’ Lead Make-Up and Hair Styling Nominations

After nearly a decade without awards, guild nominates every film on the Oscar makeup-and-hairstyling shortlist

Another guild got into the awards picture on Tuesday, with the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards announcing nominations for awards that the guild hasn’t presented in nearly a decade.

All seven films on the Academy shortlist for Best Makeup and Hairstyling received nominations in at least one of the five film categories, with “The Lone Ranger” landing two nominations and “American Hustle,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “The Great Gatsby,” “Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters,” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “Bad Grandpa” each getting one.

The only other film to receive more than one nomination was the singing-competition drama “One Chance,” which did not make the Oscar shortlist.

Other nominees included “Prisoners,” “August: Osage County,” “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” and “Jobs.”

In the television categories, “Breaking Bad,” “American Horror Story: Coven,” “Vikings,” “Hell on Wheels,” “Key & Peele” and “Behind the Candelabra” each received two nominations. Other nods went to “Glee,” “The Voice,” “Bates Motel,” “Game of Thrones” and “Boardwalk Empire.”

The guild also released nominations in theatrical and commercial categories.

Voting will begin on Jan. 21 and end on Feb. 11. All 1,800 members of the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild (IATSE, Local 706) are eligible to vote.

The awards ceremony will take place on Feb. 15 at Paramount Studios. Veteran makeup artist Dick Smith, who received an Honorary Oscar in 2012, will receive the guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
