Oct. 2008:
 
Time, Inc. lays off 600 workers, or 6 % of its workforce.
 
Dec. 2008:
 
NBC/Universal cuts spending by $500 million, lays off 70 executives and cuts 500 positions across the entire company.
 
Dec. 9, 2008:
 
Sony plans plans to cut expenses by $1 billion; eliminating 300 jobs over next 18 months. 
 
Dec. 10, 2008:
 
Yahoo! cuts expenses by $400 million, laying off 1,500 workers. 
 
Dec. 20, 2008:
 
Electronic Arts cuts 10% of its workforce, or 1,000 jobs; closes development studio and nine production facilities. 
 
Dec. 2008:
 
850 jobs slashed by Viacom, including positions at MTV Networks and Paramount Pictures. 
 
Jan. 20, 2009:
 
Warner Bros. cuts 800 jobs, or 10 percent of its workforce.
 
Jan. 22, 2008:
 
Microsoft eliminates 1,400 jobs.
