MSNBC's Martin Bashir Apologizes to Sarah Palin Over ‘Offensive’ Slavery Remarks

The host admits he went overboard in saying that the governor deserved to have someone “sh-t in her mouth.”

MSNBC host Martin Bashir apologized during his show Monday for remarks he made on-air suggesting former Alaska governor Sarah Palin deserved to have someone “shit” in her mouth.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to say sorry to Mrs. Palin and to also offer an ‘unreserved apology’ to her friends and family, her supporters, our viewers and anyone who may have heard what I said,” he said.

Bashir made the inappropriate comments Friday in response to Palin's remarks that U.S. debt to China would result in a “slavery” situation.

“Our free stuff today is being paid for today by taking money from our children and borrowing from China,” Palin said during a Nov. 9 speech in Iowa. “When that money comes due and – this isn't racist, so try it, try it anyway, this isn't racist – but it's going to be like slavery when that note is due. Right? We are going to be beholden to a foreign master.”

The governor defended those comments a week later to CNN's Jake Tapper, stating, “I'm not one to be politically correct, evidently.”

Apparently Palin's remarks were too much for Bashir to bear. In the closing segment on MSNBC's “Martin Bashir” show Friday, ironically titled “Clear the Air,” he began by introducing Palin as “America's resident dunce, scraping the barrel of her long-deceased mind.”

Bashir showed examples of the depths of depravity black slaves faced to “educate” Palin on what he felt was an inappropriate comparison.

Bashir shared with viewers the diary of a plantation overseer in Jamaica named Thomas Thistlewood. “In 1756, he records that a slave named Darby ‘catched eating kanes had him well flogged and pickled, then made Hector, another slave, shit in his mouth… ‘This became known as ‘Darby's Dose,” he revealed.

Similarly, Bashir mentions an incident in 1756, this one in relation to a man named Punch. “Flogged punch well, and then washed and rubbed salt pickle, lime juice and bird pepper, made Negro Joe piss in his eyes and mouth.'”

“When Mrs. Palin invokes slavery, she doesn't just prove her rank ignorance,” Bashir said. “She confirms that if anyone truly qualified for a dose of discipline… she would be the outstanding candidate.”

Bashir's apology comes on the heels of Alec Baldwin‘s apology following his suspension from MSNBC's “Up Late” after he admitted using a gay slur during a heated exchange with paparazzi.

Like Baldwin, Bashir deflected blame from his colleagues at MSNBC, who he says had nothing to do with the words he chose.

Bashir's mistake was thinking Palin “needed” someone to shit in her mouth. She's fully capable of producing fecal material with her mouth and needs no assistance.

Grade school polemics. Fitting when discussing the witless Palin.

      • Tom Kline

Bashir merely reported facts that illustrate the abject conditions of slaves that indicate how erroneous her slavery reference is. He didn't say Palin's discipline should be that of the slave's. Maybe the discipline of “Twelve Years A Slave.” Reading it, I mean. Todd beat up the only black kid in school. Same neighborhood as Palin. People said the weird thing would have been if he hadn't beaten the kid up. Palin was 4 mos. pregnant and married when she engaged in heavy, sexually charged flirting with a jazz musician who could pass for white. When he told her he was black, she got nervous and confused. “You can't be black.” “I don't do black guys.” Yeah, there is our shining lady liberty, self besmirched.

        • R Co

Listen Tom. Bashir is an idiot. He has no class and no business having a show. Why is it that we defend bad behavior when it comes from someone you like? I guess you also think Anthony Weiner is an ideal husband. Don't defend, it never helps.

          • Tom Kline

Weiner is an intelligent man who is deeply flawed and very sick. Its more complicated than you think. Why does seeing Palin for the ignorant, pimple headed bimba that she is imply that I would defend Weiner, which I never would do. I stand by my clarification of what happened between Bashir and Palin. Unless he was forced by his management he should not have apologized to her.

          • JBee

And he is not even a US Citizen!

        • Mark

So Tom, if I call you an idiot, that means I'm comparing you to a low IQ cretin who can't go to the bathroom by himself or produce a coherent thought? And likely spends most of the day drooling all over himself? And is so low-functioning he probably eats poop sometimes? That sounds like an idiot to me.

Or is it just that I think you're wrong in the way you're thinking or your opinion…which as of today, I believe we still have that right to express…regardless of what Obama would like the world to think. Okay, I think I see how this works.

          You're an idiot.

          • Tom Kline

Since I didn't use the word “idiot” I assume that is the most potent word in your diction. It is a term of art, not medical or any science so you can cast it as you wish. I do not act as you describe an idiot and everything I said is factually true. To think that Palin was thought capable of being president is absurd. I have my disappointments with Obama but he isn't so wholly frightening as Palin. He got us out of Iraq and there is a good chance yet that he will get us out of Afghanistan next year. The opportunity to do anything there was lost 10 years ago. Palin would have listened to the Neo-Cons and doubled down. As a socialist he has been a compete failure and the great families of America remain our true rulers.

      • notesfromachair

So you're insulting someone by calling them gay? 1952 is calling and would like it's year back.

    • rainman199

You're right, she needs to learn to lie like Obama, so idiots like you can love her.

    • fwachs

Too bad the public has to put up with mindless bloggers like you Sheka. Sarah Palin rid Alaska of corrupt politicians, gave money back to the taxpayers, and balanced the budget. She is smart and gets things done. Obama, on the other hand, has doubled the debt and is sending this country into financial ruin. He has created a divided nation. It says in the bible, “a divided nation will fall”. Obama clearly lied about every phase of his phony healthcare program. His only experience when he ran for office was “a community organizer”. What fool would vote for that?

  • Concerned

Has anyone looked up the definition of slave in the dictionary? She was correct in saying we would become ‘slaves'. Just as there are different degrees of pain, there are different degrees of slavery…none of which are pretty by any means. We need a new word to describe the atrocities the Negros and also the Jews endured. Slavery isn't strong enough.

    • Salamander

Genocide? Pretty sure it isnt new. Oh, and jews didnt endure anything.

      • R Co

Jews didn't endure anything? Did you just wake up from a coma from birth? More than 20 million Jews were killed in Europe from 1938-1945. Are you one of those Jew-haters who denies their plight? They also endured under the regime of the Egyptians.

    • DehliaLopez

Yes I did 30 years ago, the word when used intelligently does not a slave can be anyone, from any origin, from Europe, Africa, The Americas, Asia, or people from Oceania. In Palin's context she was talking, as she always is talking about a particular group of people African American's. “Salves” are people of a system long ago where individuals were treated like property by those who bought them with money in places in the South as Palin is speaking. They are bought ans old and forced to do whatever those who bought them want them to do, and are held against their will in the family until the family is caught or forced or by choice chooses to let them go. She is not correct, I can only speak for myself but I would not become a slave. I do not think the term slave reflect people of color unless the person using the word deems it to. Intelligent and educated people know this already.

  • Marilu

I think that these three comments have already s***t in their mounts. Because the use of inappropriate language against a woman. I personally don't like Michele Obama. However I have never carried that intense HATE against her. It is a shame that some women will support Bashir's offensive comments against another woman.

    • TeeTime

I agree. Bashir is just stooping to the level of conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh and his ilk.

      • JC

Really? Tell me when Limbaugh as EVER made a comment like that? Please highlight it for us…

        • TeeTime

Please see the reply to your fellow rightist John, above.

        • Tom Kline

All I remember is hearing him make such comments. I saw him do it on the tv feed.

        • DehliaLopez

JC really? OMgosh that was only too easy, verbatim, ” on February 29, 2012, American conservative talk-show host Rush L., remarked about contraceptive mandates and then labeled Sandra Fluke who is a Georgetown University law student a slut and a prostitute! So very typical of you to overlook such an important tidbit. Let me guess, you did no see in in he paper or on he Internet? Unlikely since you blog almost daily. I believe his tacky comments were in support of he previous weeks hearing by he Democrats in support of mandating insurance coverage from contraceptives????

Why would I lie: Just got out of graduate school six weeks ago, I doubt many women will forge that comment by Limbaugh.

Bingham, Amy (March 5, 2012). “Sponsors
Pull Ads From Rush Limbaugh's Radio Show Over ‘Slut’ Comments”.
ABC News. Retrieved March 8, 2012.

      • John

Tee, seriously? When have you ever heard Rush, or any other conservative commentator say anything like that about any liberal? Oh, you haven't. Put your head back up your ass, where it has been.

        • TeeTime

Your unintelligent remark at the end of your statement only underscores your ignorance and adds nothing to the argument. It does, however, typify the tea party vitriol. I don't hang on Limbaugh's every word like you and your fellow rightists, but I do seem to recall Rush calling a young lady(Sandra Fluke) a “slut” and saying that you were paying for her to have sex. I am sure there have been many more insults tossed out by your political guru, but I don't contaminate my mind with his political hogwash.

        • Tom Kline

How about when he calls women prostitutes for supporting access to birth control.

    • notesfromachair

Michelle Obama does not consistently offer the vile, vicious and racially-coded comments that Sarah Palin does. Everyone knows what she means when she says “slavery” – it's on purpose. Everyone knows what she means when she puts political candidates in her gun's cross-hairs. She is the worst kind of mouthpiece because she uses snide, pseudo-inferences of violence and racism to get her points across without any depth of knowledge or regard for the real truth in any given situation. Because she is still, for some reason, in the public eye and has an audience she needs to be consistently called on her tactics and exposed as the playground bully with no clothes.

      • DehliaLopez

Even a moron like you can do better than this can't you? I bed to differ. Until you have walked in the shoes of anyone other than yourself you have no real room to talk.

    • Yeah right

You personally don't like Michelle Obama? I don't think I would say that out loud if I were you. She is a great person, mother and wife. What could you possible have against her except that she is black?

    • Tom Kline

Bashir merely described actual slave conditions Bachman knows nothing about. Of course you would not like an intelligent, attractive black woman. That is a given.

    • DehliaLopez

And you are entitled to your opinion, I personally did not like Bushes wife either, but over time, Laura tried to do things to help children in this country. Whether is was successful or not I doubt, but trying is always better than no. There are a lot of women who do not like women who are wealthier and do not need help as I feel it might be with the Obama's but they played the system as many others have and got wealthy because they planned. Michele is an attorney/lawyer in her own right.

She did not use President Obama to get ahead she did that all on her own. There are not many women today who can do that. I do not share Bashir's comments, however like many in his counterparts in the environment certain things can be said out of ignorance or stupidity in the heat of discussion. Bashir is a reliable and steady journalist who might be in need of a break or vacation. It is not his norm and I know where he is act with this. After awhile we all get tired of hearing these comments from supposed people who propose to have wanted to be a leader of the free world.

  • Darrell Birdsbill

The New York Times called Bashir's journalism style “callous self-interest masked as sympathy. He is fluent in English, and Urdu. He identifies himself as a committed Christian. JESUS said you know a Christian by their fruits. Whats coming out of his heart , mind and tongue is “No Committed Christian.” Urdu is a muslim language.

Palin wasn't even talking about down south slavery or Jewish slavery by Eqypt. She was referring to Old Testament and New Testament Scriptures . GOD said to MOses “A nation that borrows is the tail and the Nation that lends is the Head.” The tail becomes a slave to the debt and the head (China). America is the tail and is a slave to the debt.

    • blackcountryyank

Palin was speaking as an American political leader. America was built on slavery. Stop excusing her by pretending you know what she was referring to. If Americans use the term “slavery” to make a point, they are surely referencing their own history. She could have used terms like “indebted”, or some other phrase describing financial dependency, but she used “slaves” (even glibly adding “this is not racist” – thereby indicating she knew what she was referencing). Was she being politically calculating and mischievous – appealing to any racist right wingers, or is she simply, as Bashir says, “an idiot”? If she is a leader, then who is she leading – people who think debt and slavery are the same thing? (Like indentured servants and slaves were the same?) Bear in mind, Bashir simply said that, in his opinion, people who do equate debt with slavery (like Mrs. Palin) should try a dose of THAT slave punishment – to experience the difference! He didn't actually use the words “shit” or “piss” in reference to her – unlike many of the headlines referencing the incident.

      • Yeah right

I totally agree with you except your use of the term political leader. She does not lead anyone except a bunch of racist haters.

    • Yeah right

Of course she was, she wouldn't know any other kind. I'm guessing she is not a big reader of the bible. The women is a hater.

    • DehliaLopez

How the heck do you know that? Seriously? Palin is not religious and has never attended a dang church in her life, less more a school campus or college. She is a hot head talking crap out of both sides of her mouth to pollute the airwaves. She is evil, and all of this Palin was not talking about is crap. Everyone now after Obamacare might as well be from the South! It is about giving people HEALTH CARE~~~ With or without preexisting conditions. Healthcare that no one has been able to obtain. Trying and not succeeding does not count!~ Please stop quoting the Lords words as if you actually know the Bible, Old or New Testament~ She is so angry and a sore loser.

I hope that MSNBC removes Martin Bashir and anyone else that was responsible for the hateful disgusting diatribe.
I am so deeply saddened that he crossed a journalistic line. Martin Bashir, you made a bad choice and it has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. You will always be linked by the imagery that you chose to use.

I want all blogging sites to get rid of anyone who uses the word diatribe!
Mr, Bashir is entitled to his comments and opinions; just not on live television. He has not crossed any line that many others have not crossed when provoked. Bush was not impeached after his handling of Katrina, nor his keeping dead American troops secret during the war to not let the American people know how many were dying unnecessarily. No his deeds were kept under wraps~ His actions and deeds however will forever leave a BAD TASTE in my mouth and how many American soldiers really did die unnecessarily in a war we never should have been in.

  • A Fellow American

If true, this is both filthy language and imagery – unprofessional and un-American, especially if uttered by a “professional American news personality”! Whether one agrees with Gov. Palin or not, a vulgar and angry attack on Gov. Palin may well be seen by millions and millions of our more moderate to conservative fellow Americans as an attack on them and their beliefs. America's historical success has been largely built on compromise. I fear such angry and/or vulgar rhetoric will perhaps serve to only further divide our nation politically, and not help to bring critically needed resolutions to bear (again, through compromise). Sad!

    • Tom Kline

Bashir merely reported facts that illustrate the abject conditions of slaves that indicate how erroneous her slavery reference is. He didn't say Palin's discipline should be that of the slave's. Maybe the discipline of “Twelve Years A Slave.” Reading it, I mean.

Tom Bashir reported what happen to some slaves in a foreign land. Most slaves in America were treated better than that!

        • blackcountryyank

What makes you say that? We would perhaps all like to believe it – makes us all feel better! Facts about American slavery speak otherwise. Do some research. (Such inhuman behavior is obviously not just a white on black thing. Within a century of the US Civil War, whites were systematically killing other ethnic whites, whom they considered less than human, in Europe, and 40 years after that, in Rwanda, blacks were trying to kill off other ethnic blacks. In certain circumstances, maybe we all are capable of atrocities; learning from the past, even if it is a dreadful and shameful part of our own history, is our best way of avoiding future atrocities.) If Palin watches “12 Years A Slave” – she might think twice before glibly likening a political and financial strategy to slavery!

        • Yeah right

Are you for real? This is the foreign land honey. Educate yourself.

          • Tom Kline

Human brutality is ancient but it is no excuse.

        • Tom Kline

There are plenty of accounts of slaves’ living conditions that completely contradict your claim of good treatment. E.g. where do you think the “whippin’ post” came from? You should read “Twelve Years a Slave.” It was written by black man born free and educated in the north. He was abducted and taken south and sold into slavery. Its out in movie form now. The foreign land was a little island that did business with the US sending cane to the US for processing into various uses. Just as our south specialized in cotton and tobacco the slave masters were no kinder than the ones to whom Bashir referred. Palin is plug ignorant an so are you if you really believe what you said. I assume you also deny the holocaust.

    • Yeah right

Amazing how you are upset him but have no problem with her spreading hatred. Remember the bulls eyes. Give me a break.

    • DehliaLopez

Former governor Palin is a joke. She gets on whatever show will allow her to to spit our her negative rhetoric. She hears something and latches on to it like she really knows what she's talking about. Governor, well fine at one time she was, but then the State of Alaska immediately got rid of her because she was an embarrassment to the them. America's success once was built on compromises as you so put, but not anymore. It has already divided our nation, open your eyes.

A race of people once tolerated and accepted is now hated all because of political haters in government who despise our current President because he may be 1/3 percent black? Really? Yet for the second time in the history of the Presidency, he was voted in by a land slide of American voters in this country.

The only “place” millions of us are listening and watching this garbage come from is, the Liberal Sound Bite Media.
You can be a “slave to chocolate”, “a slave to cigarettes”; you can “work like a slave” for your boss, you hear these word every day… The ONLY time we hear the whimpering, sniveling, rabid, childlike, and morbidly self absorbed retorts from Mahr, Mathews ,Piers Morgan, and Bashir, is when a conservative says them.
Of course some dimwitted response will be, ” that's because only conservatives would say something like that”… well if you really believe that… you are both a liar and a scoundrel.
I would rather have 1 Sarah Palin in my corner to help protect and defend my home and country, than all of those tricked out commentators combined!
In closing when we were children we yelled and screamed and called people names, usually when those we were screaming at were right…well look who is screaming, calling names… spoiled children.
To loosely quote “The Baird”, “Methinks they doth protest too much”…usually those that throw the stones have the most to loose!

    • Yeah right

Don't defend her racist remarks. Move to Alaska if you like her.

    • Tom Kline

The use of “slave” to imply difficulty shows the inability of whites to comprehend what slavery was. Palin is one such. Bashir described the real evil of slavery as counterpoint to her use in which she went on to define other meanings of slavery by almost actually describing the meaning by which she should have known not to use the word in the sense by which she began this nonsense. She doesn't read and she doesn't think before she speaks. Bashir did not say she should get the same treatment.
Let me see if I can decipher the convoluted logic in the ex-Governor's latest attack of righteous indignation …
Ms. Palin wants to reserve the right to “not be politically correct” but also wants to insist that everyone else adhere to HER own belligerently ignorant and painfully biased version of political correctness.
That is exactly what has always irked me the most about the Privileged White Christianist Pseudo-Conservative TeaBagger Patriots … their blatantly self-serving and unrelenting hypocrisy.

I depise political correctness because it encourages group-think, viewpoint discrimination, and victim-heirarchy (gay victims are worth more than Christian victims). We all have a right to our own views and political correctness squashes that. Let's see how you feel when some idiot makes a crude remark that you should have ___ put in your mouth.

      • Tom Kline

Political correctness is as old as the ten commandments and anti-blasphemy laws.

    • Yeah right

Very good……..I agree. That freedom of speech stuff only applies to them.

  • ceceliajernegan

I will boycott with my wallet this station, their sponsors and this man. This is what is wrong with America. People like Martin make our society even more sick. He needs to go back to his country.

    • Yeah right

Yeah right………like you watch MSNBC. That would be like me saying I will boycott FOX. HaHaHa

      • Tom Kline

I force myself to watch Faux News for 15 minutes a day. More errors per minute documented by my record keeping over 3 years.

    • Tom Kline

There is no denying history. If Palin wants to be a public figure she needs to be called out on her appalling ignorance and pettiness toward others.

Martin Bashir you are the idiot. Sarah said like “slavery”. The last time I checked the definition of slavery it meant “bondage” or “servitude”. Sarah did not make any comparison to slavery of African Americans or slavery of African Jamaicans. You need to wake up and smell the coffee buddy. You are a nasty individual that should not be allowed to pollute our country.

    • Yeah right

Yep that is what it means.

  • amfh

KUDOS to Martin. He got it right…Palin IS America's dunce, and her comparison to debt/slavery was further evidence of her ignorance. Why in God's name does anyone give this person a forum to speak anyway?

  • Tom Kline

Bashir merely reported facts that illustrate the abject conditions of slaves. He didn't say Palin's discipline should be that of the slave's. Maybe the discipline of “Twelve Years A Slave.” Reading it, I mean.

  • John

Bashir is just another stupid black man who hates whites. Wouldn't waste any time on him.

    • R Co

Bashir is Indian. Read a newspaper or anything; just put down the Little Golden Books.

    • Yeah right

You are an idiot and he doesn't hate whites………he might hate the stupid stuff Sarah Palin says, and he has the right to say it, remember? Or does that just work for all you racists?

  • John

This is why I have distanced myself from all moronic liberals. They can't have a discussion without saying something stupid like that. Don't waste your time with them. Most are complete idiots. You will be much happier avoiding them and letting them live in their miserable lives.

    • TeeTime

Maybe you could move to the northern Colorado counties that want to secede from the Union. Otherwise, it will be difficult to evade all liberals, since they came out by the millions and voted to elect your nemesis, Barack Obama.

    • Yeah right

And you don't see that as a hateful remark. You are just a bunch of haters.

  • vgbtheboss

Hey, female, gay, conservative, I'm a female, straight, conservative Italian-American from Brooklyn, NY and I'd like to give you a great big hug. Your remarks were on point! By the way, thanks for mentions Maher as a whimpering and sniveling fathead…he's the biggest offender of all. I still remember when he made that infamous remark on the night of Sept. 11th–”Say what you will about the terrorists, you can't call them cowards.” My problem with Sarah Palin in this whole business is that she didn't make a coherent defense of her choice of words–as you did.

  • JC

Reading the Liberal posts here shows how sad the United States has become. Somehow because YOU don't like Palin's views, or her opinion, it's OK for you or Bashir to make nasty disturbing and creepy statements about her. But no one can object to Obama's policy w/o being called racist, per Obama.
Look what happened to IMUS, and he was NOT NEAR as nasty..
Also, MSNBC is more responsible and literally throwing this Bashir idiot under the bus…His words were up on the teleprompter, which means it was reviewed and edited by MSNBC execs, and they approved it…
So, they KNEW it'd create issue, but allowed it and didn't care.
    SAD,
And the funny part…THe LIBS all consider Fox News bias…but reading the posts here, it's quite clear the MSNBC viewers don't have the brains of a dead toad.

    • blackcountryyank

What if…Bashir had ended his commentary BEFORE saying that Palin should experience some of the atrocious punishment that characterized slavery? Would Palin supporters then admit that her use of the word “slavery” was misplaced or inappropriate? Let's not let hatred of liberals destroy or bias an objective judgement of Palin's speech. (I know, Bashir DID conclude with his suggestion – and later apologized for it – but I'm asking “What if…?”)

  • Catherine

Bashir vomits a diatribe against Palin…it airs in it's entirety….THEN he apologies? What is the apology for? He meant every word of he wouldn't have said it. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. Full intention! Bashir should be ceremoniously FIRED.

    • Yeah right

      He shouldn't have apologized.

  • http://www.1960sailors.net/05d_Jocko.htm Greg4422

R Kelly is said to be reaching to Sarah Palin to fulfill her fantasy

  • Erin

Why can't you be against someone's beliefs without saying evil and mean things about the person himself? We have enough killing in this country without more incendiary language. If you didn't like what she said, why not attack the words and not the person. I never cared for her as a politician, but she doesn't deserve the vitrolic language directed on her and her family time and again.

    • Yeah right

She is constantly attacking people personally that is why. She needs to get some of it back and I for one am glad to see it. She has nothing to say that the GOP hasn't put in their talking points. It is an empty head and it needs to shut up.

  • Lynn Beamon

I think everyone has missed the point that Gov. Palin was trying to make. Our debt to China makes it easy for them to “own” this country's economy. The slavery reference, as charged as it is, is meant to say that. They have the ability to control our economy by owning so much of our debt. People need to look past the words. Why is it that when someone says “slavery,” everyone thinks about what the blacks had endured I this country? There are many other countries and cultures that have had and still have slaves. The use of the word does not always mean something about black history .

    • Yeah right

In this racist country it absolutely does……and that is exactly how she meant it. She is a hateful person and has been spreading hate all along.

      • Lynn Beamon

It's sad that your own racism will not allow you to see the real point about our economy and our beholding to another country because of how much money we owe them.

  • Mark

Liberals are so compassionate…and idiotic. To attempt to use this completely ridiculous comparison for the use of a term that was used in a completely different context, and to hear so-called enlightened liberals attempt to defend this pompous asshole Bashir, is astounding. Oh wait, you're liberals…you're suppose to be vacuous, misinformed by MSNBC propaganda and out of touch with reality. Never mind.

    • Yeah right

She is the one that made the comparison of money due to slavery. He was the one explaining why it was a ridiculous comparison. I agree with him. It really doesn't have anything to do with liberalism, it has to do with stupid.

  • JBee

Although Sarah Palin is not my choice for a future president, I believe she should be respected for being a female and having the courage to try to make a difference. She is passionate about her beliefs and she is using her right of free speech. At least she inspired women to believe that you don't need a Harvard Law education to command a place of power in this country. I find her humanity to be refreshing. I challenge any of you to be in the spot light and not say or do something stupid or something “human”. What is most shocking is that Martin Bashir was able to sleep at night after those comments. He identifies himself as a committed Christian. I am a Christian and we have a little rule, called the Golden Rule. In case you forgot, it is simply, treat others the way you want to be treated.

As a Christian, I am going to forgive Mr. Bashir for being a dunce and a world class idiot, just Like Mrs. Palin, he is human.

By the way, Mr. Bashir, are you a US Citizen? From what I see, you are not. You are entitled to your opinion. Sarah Palin is a US Citizen, she represents herself as a conservative female. Who are you to judge? I highly doubt she deserves being defecated and urinated on because she made a “not so great” reference to slavery.

If that was the punishment for a politician making a statement that is either untrue, or ignorant…we would not need toilets!

How about we try to judge ourselves before others?

    • Yeah right

Being an idiot has nothing to do with women finding a place of power in this country. It inhibits women trying to make a difference. She is not passionate about her beliefs……..she quit the governorship when something better came along. She is passionate about the money involved in being in the spotlight. Period. I agree with Bashir, she should know what she is talking about before she opens her mouth. The comparisons are totally flawed and makes little of slavery……and it was racist. A set of morals would include not spreading hatred which she continually does. We have a great president and if she doesn't like him then she should run again.

  • Myriam

But Palin DOES deserve to have someone shit in her mouth.

  • Pat Riot

I have to say I'm disappointed. This day in age everyone says what they mean, and then they get threatened and end up taking back what they said. The bottom line is if they said it they meant it! Period! Of all the people out there I fully expected Martin to stand behind what he said. His view on Sara Palin was consistent. It is obviously supported by the majority of folks out there. If not she might have had half a chance at sitting in Joe Biden's seat. (That and maybe if someone else on her side was running for president. But hey, they worked with what they had. Mitt didn't fair any better.)
What the heck ever happened to freedom of speech?
In this case the bottom line was Palin did spot's on the Today Show. When she did the ratings went up. (why? who only knows. other than maybe everyone is tuning in to see what the dizzy broad is up to next.) So because the network was worried about ratings for the Today Show they made Martin resign? Resign? Hopefully they wrote Martin a big check to do so. Hopefully he ends up some where where he can tell it like it is in the future!

  • mrcliffp

Kind of redundant since she's a shit head with shit for brains to begin with. I'll miss his brutal honesty on MSNBC and will hopefully see him land on his feet elsewhere.
