The forthcoming “Drumline” sequel stars Alexandra Shipp as Dani Bolton, a promising young percussionist who leaves Brooklyn with the hopes of becoming the fictional Southern university’s first female drum leader. Shipp also stars as ill-fated recording artist Aaliyah Haughton in Lifetime’s “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.”

“Drumline” also stars Lisa Arrindell Anderson, Jasmine Burke and Leonard Roberts, who played Cannon’s straight-edged foil Sean Taylor in the original.

Though Cannon’s character Devon Miles makes just a cameo appearance, the entertainer did serve as one of the film’s executive producers. “Sleepy Hollow’s” Orlando Jones and “Guardians of the Galaxy” star Zoe Saldana are not reprising their roles.
