NBC announced in January that the miniseries will run for eight episodes. It is based on a novel by Australian author Christos Tsiolkas that was previously adapted as an Australian miniseries.
Sarsgaard appeared recently in AMC and Netflix’s “The Killing,” while Parker starred in Showtime’s “Weeds.”
NBC entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt, who was previously at Showtime, helped develop and supervise the dramedy “Weeds.” It starred Parker as a mom who sold pot to support her family.
“The Slap,” from Universal Television and Matchbox Pictures, is written by Jon Robin Baitz (“Brothers & Sisters”) and will be directed by Lisa Cholodenko (“The Kids Are All Right.”)
