Stephen Colbert and Megyn Kelly Agree: Santa Is White (Video)

“Santa can't just change colors. It's not like he's magic or anything”

Stephen Colbert has come to Fox News host Megyn Kelly's defense, agreeing that not only is Santa Claus white, but Jesus was, too.

Kelly has been mocked for telling “all you kids watching” her Fox News show that Santa Claus is white, in response to a Slate piece arguing that Santa need not be an old white man. She also made the clumsy case that Jesus is white, too.

“Jesus was a white man too, but it's like… He was a historical figure and that's a verifiable fact, as is Santa,” she said.

Colbert said on Thursday's “Colbert Report” that he couldn't agree more.

“Just look at any photo of Jesus. He was just your average, Aramaic speaking, first century, Middle Eastern white guy,” he said. “The only evidence I need are the sacred Dockers of Turin.”

Colbert said there were practical reasons there coudn't be a black Santa.

“If a homeowner in Florida sees a black man coming down their chimney, he is going to get shot: ‘Officer, I was just defending my milk and cookies,'” he said.

Besides, he asked, how could Santa change his race? “Santa can't just change colors. It's not like he's magic or anything,” Colbert noted.

I myself am a minority, but I think Megyn Kelly makes a compelling argument when she appeals to the historicity of Santa Clause, who is based on a historical Greco/Turkish Bishop from the ancient city of Myra named Saint Nicholas. And yes, I believe his skin color was primarily white.

I also agree with her when she bemoans the fact that today every cultural artifact must bow to the rigid doctrine of all-inclusivity. Give it a rest, people. We liberals (of which I primarily identify) can be a tediously sanctimonious lot when it comes to something we perceive to be politically incorrect. Let's draw our battle lines at health care and the minimum wage, shall we?

    • dpgympac

We liberals can chew gum and walk at the same time. We can continue to fight the good fight for health care and fair wages as well as point out it was Megyn who chose to be sanctimonious when she declared both Jesus and Santa were white. With your argument, Rosa Parks should have been content to go to the back of the bus. After all, whether she was seated in the front or back the bus was going to the same destination(s) and would arrive at the same time for everyone on that bus no matter where they were seated. She said no the order to go to the back and people listening to Megyn Kelly should also say no, you're wrong.

      • charles jr.

        no megyn Kelly right!

        • dpgympac

Charles jr, does your mommy know you're playing with the computer again?

          • Ferin

Does yours? Jesus was bronze skinned as were his people. Santa is a fictional character created to bring light hearted cheer to Christians. And finally Martin Luther King Jr was a very conservative man, with his only liberal value being the creation of civil rights, which we can all agree was a miracle of accomplishment in its time. Now kindly escort yourself off the site and stop picking fights with conservatives who aren't even here, you look foolish batting at invisible flies, seriously.

          • dpgympac

Ferin, you really are full of yourself aren't you? In case you haven't looked around there are plenty of neocons that are spewing garbage, just like Megyn Kelly. I look foolish yet you took the time to write and you even acknowledged Jesus wasn't white. If only Megyn could have been as understanding. Oh, and you seem to have taken it upon yourself to troll this site to pick a fight with liberals. Maybe you should just escort yourself off the site. That would do wonders for thinking people.

          • Doris

Since Jesus lived in the desert, and sunblock had not been invented…my guess is he was a very very dark brown. He could have had green eyes or brown…maybe blue…but hair….dark brown to black,….perhaps a bit sun bleached ….or is that called a frosting.. or highlighted.(humor folks)
Short …squatish….and in bad shape…(fishing and pontificating is not a workout) As for Santa….he is multi colored.

    • TB

With the conservatives, there is no such thing as “primarily white”. Either you are or you aren't, you can't be a little bit pregnant

  • Debbie

What else is new, I don't have a problem with the Santa being white thing, but I do have a problem with her being so sure Jesus is white. That is the problem with some conservatives, they think everything of power should look like them!

  • Katya

Jesus was a Jew. He was neither white nor black. European painters represented him as a white, blue eyed man. This is the image that English colonists had in mind when they came to the New World. Santa Claus is a fictional European tradition. Because the visual representation of both came to us via European artists, people believe that has to be so.

  • lemandri

Santa has always been white for as long as I can remember and I am 66. The real Santa was St. Nicholas who was also white, not black, brown, yellow, red or whatever. For those of you who this may offend, get off your asses and create your own version of Santa and leave my man alone. Otherwise you will get coal in your stocking this Christmas.
Jesus …. and yes, I am white too.

    • JD

Our experiences tend to make us think our little world and what we believe is all there is. I've seen many Santa(s) of color. The bible gives a few physical characteristics of Jesus which definitely suggest he was not white. Megan spoke authoritatively about something she was obviously ignorant about.

      • charles jr.

jesus is white and you are the ignorant one jack a$$!

        • JD

I think your post shows who is the ignorant one.

    • Randy Mccloud

Really..You're white? I would never have guessed. Santa was created as a white man, so I have no problem depicting him as such. As for Jesus…he is a historical figure that really existed, and as Colbert pointed out, I'm sure there were lots of Aramaic speaking, first century, Middle Eastern, blue eyed, white guys walking around. Jesus was a Jew, but it doesn't take an historian, or conservative talk host to figure out he wasn't white. Just takes some common sense, not something Faux News is noted for, and something you may not share with Jesus, but definitely have in common with Megyn Kelly.

  • TB

Only morons would use Stephan Colbert to justify Megyn Kelly's stupidity. She is the perfect example of the stereotypical “dumb” blonde. It's always about “race” with the conservatives.

    • bubby

…you do realize that Stephen Colbert's entire show is based around satire of the extreme conservative Americans, right?

      • TB

My pointy exactly. Anything to help justify their idiocy, even satirical programming.

  • eagle

Human , is what they both were, St. Nick was human, Jesus came as a human, They both were not rich, they both were kind and giving, They both, were here to bring good to this world, St Nick was about giving, Jesus, gave, No instead of focusing on color, why not focus on How many in this world, are not even kind, giving humans, and cant even be called humans.

    • eagle

There are many that want to be, and, let them show this , as humans, like Jesus and well St Nick, Love, giving , kindness , has no color, it does have one trait that matches, you have to be human.

      • DntBFooled

Christmas itself is based on paganism. The so-called St. Nick was not even a saint and the messiah whose name is not Jesus but Yashuah was Hebrew and there is no record of what day He was born in the scriptures, but it wasn't December 25.
The so called St. Nick is no one important because he can neither here nor speak (he's dead). Today he is celebrated or worshiped in the image of an imaginary being called Santa Clause. People lie to their children telling them that Santa is bringing them gifts.
There is a lot more to it but I don't have the time right now.

        • DurDur

Christmas is not BASED on Paganism…it was a replacement for the Pagan celebration of the winter solstice, and THAT is why it is celebrated when it is and not on the Messiah's actual birth date (aside from the fact that the actual date was unknown- it is known that December would be very unlikely as the time of the birth).

        • Tom Adams

Lying to your kids about Santa Claus ? So what your basically implying is that exercising your child's ability to use his imagination and fill his life with excitement is wrong ? When I realized that Santa was really my parents I thanked them for that happiness they gave me . It added wonder and fun to the holiday , It wasn't just about the gifts . It was the Journey to them and I would never hold that feeling from any child .

  • RIDGERUNNER29

    LOL,you worry about Santa not Benghazi,ObamaCare,Fast and Furious,IRS,Nuclear Option,$100,000,000 Presidential vacations.you're all idiots,get a LIFE

    • Antoine Madoukou

Ridgerunner29, you do realize that Fast and Furious was a hold over program from the Bush administration, right? As for the Nuclear Option, you need to learn something about the American political system: elections have consequences, one of which is that the president of these United States of America gets to appoint those people who are qualified, to serve this country. Yes, in some instances those people will reflect his ideology. Among the prerogatives of the senate of the United States is the right to advise and consent, not the right to obstruct and obfuscate, hence the Nuclear Option. As for ObamaCare, get with the program, unless, of course, you're an insurance company bleeding dry the sick people of this country.

      • liberal boomerang

And your precious Obama opposed like hell the nuclear option when he was a do nothing congressman.

        • Doris

Obama….so unlike Jesus of course….who did not do more than fish and pontificate…….which earned him notoriety, and devotion for millions, and never even got to see the book in his honor…The Bible…written by old fart s who drank wine all of their lives…three times a day with meals….ahem…and when thirsty. But Obama only stopped a depression, saved lives, homes and banks, GM, and a few other major things too many to mention….Still you trash him…..go figure…oh…sorry…..that would take brains….OK….lets just say it beats …the rocks, bread and fish story…to feel a few….as opposed to health care for millions…food, extended unemployment bennnies……..I can sure see why you favor Jesus over him

  • Marco Reeves

Galilee was an Aryan Mittani region, therefore the man people think of when they think Jesus was in all likelihood pretty close to what the people of Israel look like; Caucasian with propensities for olive skin. Santa is a depiction of St. Nicholas who was Greek.
Those offended by this need to makeup there own folk legends and stop stealing the identities of those already created. The sensibilities of you 100 IQ having commoners is so fragile its ridiculous. Read a book and improve your family tree.
This is extra funny too since Santa and Jesus are both fictitious magicians.

    • Mike

While it is true that Middle Eastern people are “Caucasian” by the definition of the term, the description of “white” as usually applied by Fox News commentators (and socially across most of the USA) is not the same thing.

  • John Hughes

Stephen Colbert is being sarcastic!!! Are you dense?

  • KemetNeteru

Amo 9:7 Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? Jer 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil. Rev 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; Rev 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. Rev 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. As the natural laws are set before Me, so shall the seed of Israel never cease from being a nation before Me, forever. (Jeremiah 31:36) ISAIAH 29:22”Therefore thus saith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.” ISAIAH 29:22”Therefore thussaith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.” Deu 28:68 And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.

  • Alistair Philip

Steven Colbert is behaving like an ignoramus and to attempt to portray Jesus as white man simply on the basis of a Michelangelo depiction is not humorless. Jesus was a Jew and he came from a region where the people had color.
    .

    • canto28

Yep, they had color and for the vast majority it was white. It was part of the Roman empire then and (European) Romans were largely white as were Jews then (with a Mediterranean tan). If you're thinking of the Arab influence their violent conquests as Muslims of what was largely the Christian mid-East (& North Africa) didn't occur until the 7th century.

  • Alistair Philip

Megan kelly declaring that Jesus is white? Who gave her that authority?

  • K.V.

To the person who wrote this article: You DO realize that Stephen Colbert is a satirist and comedian, and that nothing he says is meant to be taken seriously, don't you?

  • AnthonyAmerica

    It's that BUBBLE that these people live in, It's a known fact that it shuts out all forms of common sense;
Fox always denies any form of racists actions on their part.
    To think we all came here from other lands; that were invaded by Romans, Greeks, Mongols, Germans, and many other nations;
To say there is a pure race of any kind is rather silly.
But with many people there is a need to hate something, to make them feel superior to others,
The chances of any of us to have a mixture of Roman, Jewish, African, Mongol pumping threw our veins are like 99.999999999999999% certain.
So you can live in ignorance and continue to watch Fox and bigoted spin or step out of your bubble and join the rest of the world.
Your world is getting smaller by the second, just the Asian population in the world out numbers white by more than 2 to 1.
    White will no longer exists in the near future;
