Sundance: Movie-Loving Teens Documentary ‘The Wolfpack’ Bought by Magnolia Pictures

Crystal Moselle directed the film, which opens with a charming re-enactment of “Reservoir Dogs”

Magnolia Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to Crystal Moselle’s documentary “The Wolfpack,” which follows a group of movie-loving brothers in New York City who live isolated from the rest of society, an individual with knowledge of the deal has told TheWrap.

Known as “the Wolfpack,” the mostly-teenage Angulo brothers learn about the outside world through Hollywood movies like “Reservoir Dogs” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” They transcribe a film’s dialogue and pare down the script to re-enact the movies in their apartment. Things change when one of the brothers escapes into the real world.

Moselle produced “The Wolfpack” with Kotva Fims’ Izabella Tzenkova, Verisimilitude’s Hunter Gray and Alex Orlovsky, while David Cross executive produced with Tyler Brodie, Cameron Brodie and Louise Ingalls Sturges.

Magnolia will sell international rights at the European Film Market next month. Submarine negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers and the company’s new label Sub-Version retained the film’s remake rights, which are still available.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
