Vince Vaughn on ‘True Detective’? You Guys, Just Cast Someone

Actor’s name is latest to surface after Season 1 leads Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson exit

Wouldn’t it be kind of funny if there is no “True Detective” Season 2 planned, and HBO is just messing with us?

That’s kind of how it felt Monday as Vince Vaughn was mentioned as the latest possible addition to Nic Pizzoletto’s anthology. TVLine says the “Swingers” actor is in “preliminary talks” to join Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch, who have also been reported to be in talks, though nothing is confirmed.

HBO chairman Richard Plepler said at a Television Critics Association panel that the network was about a week away from some “True Detective” announcements.

Asked Monday about the Vaughn report, HBO said it had nothing to confirm. Vaughn’s representatives did not respond to requests for comment.

The second season of the show is expected to be set in California. Season 1 leads Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are not returning.
