Will Biden’s Antitrust Team Slow the Media Merger Frenzy?

Discovery and Amazon are among those looking to close major 2021 acquisitions

Last year was a big one for mergers in the media and entertainment space, but the largest of those deals still have to pass regulatory muster to become a reality in 2022. That might be tougher than in years past, as President Joe Biden’s administration has indicated it will pay more attention to antitrust concerns.

But whether that will be enough to stymie major deals like Amazon’s $8 billion takeover of MGM or WarnerMedia’s merger with Discovery remains to be seen.
