Fox’s fall ratings hero “Gotham” may need the caped crusader sooner than it thought.

The Batman prequel will introduce new villain, Scarecrow, later this season, executive producer Danny Cannon announced at Stan Lee‘s Comikaze Expo Sunday in Los Angeles. Of course, like Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and Catwoman’s Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), Scarecrow will come in child form, the network told TheWrap.

“Gotham” follows a relatively young Det. Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), before he becomes commissioner of Gotham PD. He is partnered with grizzled cop Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue).

Some of the city’s villains, such as Oswald Cobblepot’s Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), are just beginning to form. The Riddler’s Edward Nigma (Cory Michael Smith) is also depicted in his early stages.

Newly-created bad guy, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), is the veteran villain in town.

“Gotham” is Fox’s biggest hit of the young season, currently ranking just behind “How to Get Away With Murder” among top-rated new series.
