‘Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage Is Totally Up for Nude Scene

Lord Tyrion ready to do his part for equal opportunity nudity

Peter Dinklage is ready to do his part to increase the amount of male nudity on “Game of Thrones.”

The actor, who plays Tyrion Lannister on the HBO hit, told Entertainment Weekly he hasn’t seen a script yet calling for nudity. But if there is one, he’s in.

“If it’s appropriate for the material, I will definitely go to the gym,” Dinklage told EW.

A Dinklage nude scene would be a victory for non-traditional screen nudity in two ways : First, he has achondroplasia, which is the cause of his short stature.

Second, he is a man.

One of the rare critiques of “Game of Thrones” is that its nudity sometimes seems to serves no artistic purpose beyond being salacious and titillating. The women are nude much more often than the men, raising questions about gender equity.

Former castmate Oona Chaplin said last year that one of her female costars — she did say which one — has decided not to do any more nude scenes.

“She said, ‘I want to be known for my acting, not for my breasts,’” Chaplin told The Telegraph.

“Game of Thrones” seems to be responding to the criticisms. Dinklage’s co-star, Kit Harington, recently said he’s open to a nude scene if it’s “f—ing well deserved.” So that’s something. And the upcoming fourth season of the show, premiering April 6, features a fair amount of male nudity in the first three episodes.
